How to check AEM 6.4 on-premise license validity from Author instance

Avatar

Hello,

We are using an on-premise installation of Adobe Experience Manager 6.4, configured on the customer's servers. We need to know whether, through the web interface of the author instance, there is a section that allows us to view the license status and, in particular, the expiration date.

If the licenses have expired, what happens to the CMS? Are some functions blocked?

Thank you in advance for your support.

Hi @robertol6836527,

In AEM on-premise, the license validity and expiration are not exposed directly in the Author UI. The license details are stored in the license.properties file located in the AEM installation directory. A typical perpetual (enterprise) license looks like this:

license.customer.name=Your Company
license.product.name=Adobe Experience Manager
license.product.version=6.5.0
license.downloadID=xxxx-xxxx-xxxx

If your file does not contain a field like license.expiration.date, this usually means the license is a perpetual license (no hard expiration date).

The best option is to contact Adobe Customer Support or your Adobe Account Manager, since they can check the license and contract status in their systems.

Good morning,
thank you for your reply.

Could you kindly let me know what happens to the CMS once the license has expired? For example, is it expected that certain functionalities will no longer be available ?

Thank you in advance.

Usually AEM 6.x on-premise license is perpetual - linked to the contract with Adobe. The license key does not contain an expiration date.

1. You can check the license on your AEM Author at "<server>/system/console/productinfo" Screenshot 2025-08-28 101327.png

2. I don't think you CMS will stop working on the expiration date, but you will loose access to Adobe Support Services (Technical support, Security patches, Bug fixes, Service pack updates).

3. Check your License validity at Adobe Licensing Website (LWS) https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/volume-licensing-site.html and contact Adobe Account Manager for renewals, options.
