Firmware on AEM Screens Player

Avatar

I'm working on AEM Screen right now. Problem I encounter is, mis-align firmware version on my client device and aem server. On my device dashboard, I see my device is with firmware 2.3.2, while in Action column is 2.2.214.

  • My AEM Screens player on device is downloaded from google play at newest version 3.3.0.
  • AEM Server is brand new 6.4 Author.

I wonder will it cause any error with unaligned firmware version (i'm experiencing animation, clean cache in screen play malfunction in my case) and how to align firmware between server and client (client version is higher than server).

The screens team has done a lot of work to ensure forward and backward compatibility of player and AEM versions. However it is always appreciated to keep the versions in sync especially if you face any issues.

The latest players are available at AEM Screens Player - Downloads and the latest applicable Screens featurepack is available in package share corresponding to the published players.

Please install 6.4 SP1, restart AEM and then install the Screens featurepack to ensure the best compatibility with the latest players.

Team replied:

The reason the user is seeing this discrepancy is because there is a newer version (2.2.214) of the firmware, deployed on the server,

that normally a user could update to by clicking on the Update button.  In this case, Since the Customer is using the Chrome OS player,

the update option is not available.  So all he/she is seeing in the DCC is information indicating there is a newer version of the firmware available.

As I stated previously, that information can be ignored since the firmware in the chrome OS player can’t be updated on the fly.
