Everyone group added to all Group Groups and cannot be removed

I have a new install of AEM 6.1.  The "everyone" group is automatically added to all existing and newly created groups. Trying to remove the group from the "Groups" tab in the useradmin console appears to remove it but does not work. The "everyone" group is showing when reloading the console.  What needs to be done in order to remove the group or prevent it from being added as a default for other groups? 

Here are the steps I used to create the group:

1. create new group

2. double-click to open newly created group

3. select "Groups" tab

4. Select "Everyone" group and click "Remove"

5. Click "Save"

6. Reload the console & re-open group

7. "everyone" group is once again listed in "Groups" tab

Hi Marla,

I just followed your steps and had the same result. This group is likely to be a group required by the repository, hence you can't delete it. If you raise a ticket, the support team may go into more details.

What issue do you have with this group that makes you want to delete it?

EDIT: The "about" description for the everyone group says the following "Built-in group automatically containing all existing users and groups. The list of members cannot be edited."

Yes.. thats looks like a bug. Please raise a support ticket for the same.

The display you reference 'Groups' for any given authorizable (group or user) shows the groups *they* belong to. The everyone group is special *all* authorizables whether users or groups belong to the everyone group.

A group being a member of the everyone group does nothing to change who is a member *of* the group.

Ahh, that makes a lot more sense.  I didn't pick-up on that since I was using a 5.4 version to compare and the old version Groups does not show "everyone" (or was configured not to).  Thanks for clarifying.

@opkar, so that gives the permission to that group for everyone right which should not be the case.

We create different groups so that everyone would not get that permissions :)

oh yes !! sorry for the confusion.

'Members' are the one who drives the permissions rather 'Groups'. By default 'everyone' will be part of all the groups
