CQ - Discussion: Steps to building a successful CQ site

Avatar

Level 2

Hey guys,

I was recently asked: "What are the steps you would take before going into development phase of a CQ site?"

Here's my rough outline of what I would do before starting my development

  1. Identifying of main and sub pages
    •    Working out sitemap
  2.  Identifying of number of templates
  3.  Identifying Components and Component Groups
    • Component functionalities and possibility to be modularized
      • The best and simplest way to and for Author to edit the content
      • Reusing of components or expending the use of a component
    • Modifying existing out of the box components or building customize components

Just want to know or discuss, how would you guys do it or what are YOUR pre developments steps ?

It sounds like you are on the right path. I recommend that you read this AEM topic: http://dev.day.com/docs/en/cq/current/howto/website.html.

Hope this helps

Some tips that are specific to using responsive design in CQ are here, around modularizing page components:

http://dev.day.com/docs/en/cq/current/developing/mobile/responsive.html#Developing%20a%20Fluid%20Gri...

The Geometrixx Media sample is an example of this.

0. Write a huge poster that states "Everything is Content! References rules! JCR Queries sucks! " 😉
