If a JCR node has a lot of direct child nodes (e.g. 1000 and more), buckets (phantom folders) are required to ensure that performance is not affected. These are generated according to an algorithm when importing.
These buckets take the form of phantom folders that are introduced to your catalog structure, but can be configured so they are not apparent in public URLs.
