AEM6.2 Assets references are getting updated

I have a site in EN-US and I am creating translation projects for translation from EN-US to get translated content for other locales. But a weird thing is happening, some of the asset references in EN-US are getting updated to Japanese URLs which 

Page in en-us has reference - /content/dam/web/en-us/image1.png

Reference updated to- /content/dam/web/ja/image1.png

Not sure what is the causing the reference change.

Some of the image references in EN-US site got updated to Japanese assets in author.Twenty percent of the asset references were updated to Japanese. The page/components do not have 'jcr:lastModified/jcr:lastModifiedBy' etc properties added so that  we can figure out when the update was made.

A project for Japanese locale was sent for translation when this happened.

We need help in figuring out which service or event would have caused this.
