AEM Error Handling mechanism

Hi

Is there any best practices or guidelines for the Error Handling mechanism in a page level errors and the content level errors?

Example:

1) To handle 301,404, error pages.

2) If any specific content level errors on the pages, can we handle it via I18N.? if the site is having bunch of error messages how to deal with multi language websites.?

But am looking for any best practices and guidelines that are need to be followed. mainly i am looking for the application/website level error handling for multilingual site creation process and optimized processing time for a bunch of error messages to be handled.
