AEM Asset Versions and Smart crop

I have about a hundred assets in a folder with a blue bicycle and have spent several days smart cropping them and are now ready for publishing. I have just found out that there has been a request to have the bicycle be red so they have all been retouched.

Is there an easier way to upload all the red bicycle assets and have it keep the smart crops? Everything else will be the same, filename, file dimensions. 

I have tried uploading as a version as it prompts me to do so. I can see the new image, but as I click on smartcrop, it shows me the old version of the image and the default smart crops are in place instead of the smart crops that I have assigned.

Sharing the reply from the Internal Experts:

Expert 1: I don’t believe there is a way to reuse the manual crops from one image to another. I can understand the use case though, assuming the cropping points are stored in JCR then a custom workflow could probably copy the crops if you had some sort of naming convention.

Expert 2: Manual changes to Smart Crops are not remembered if the images change.
