Maintaining Haumburger Menu

So I'm not sure about everyone else but i've been keeping an eye on apps that have been coming out of 2015 and i noticed that

They somehow maintain the hamburger menu beyond the home screen anyone know how they pulled that off?

Hi. I've done this one way. All articles in the topLevel collection. But then you can't use the update pill when you update content.
