Pagename for link click and exit link

Avatar

Level 4

Hi everyone,

I have exit links OOTB enabled in Analytics extension and Link clicks Rule with  event1.

I have been capturing pageName with these events and I am not capturing page Url in eVar for link click  and exit.

Now , I need to create a segment for one of the section of page. I have option of creating segment based on pagename and pageUrl .

If I am using pagename it is giving me more visits compared to page Url.

Can anyone please tell me which dimension will be the right one to segment. Also, why exit link is increasing my visit and pageviews. ?

I assume the following:

  • You're capturing pageName in an eVar, and pageUrl in another eVar.
  • You're capturing the pageName eVar with both Page View and Custom Link beacons.
  • You're capturing the pageUrl eVar with Page View beacons only.

If those assumptions are correct, then yes, you should expect that the number of visits reported with the pageName eVar would be less than that for the pageUrl eVar. You should also expect that the "Unspecified" pageUrl eVar has the most number of visits. This is because AA can only report a visit with tracked (or post-processed) values, and since you only have pageUrl values with Page View beacons only, then you should expect fewer data points with the pageUrl eVar.

Exit Links should not increase your visits and pageviews. How have you configured the Analytics extension's Outbound Links section?
