Using Date Wildcard on Report

I am trying to filter report to show "Current Year" of billing records between beginning of current year and previous month of current year. I'm using Date: $$TODAYby between $$TODAYe-1m. The report is still showing January 2022 billing record data. It seems like January is throwing off the filter since there isn't a previous month in the current year. Does anyone know of a way to resolve this? I have many reports and don't want to manually change them to fix the problem.
