Timeline updates not reflecting with predecessors set

I have a project set up where each task has a predecessor so that the timeline will auto update when one change is made to a task. We are seeing this break where even though we change the date, the following tasks are not reflecting the change to start date even though the predecessor is set properly. Additionally, when we have multiple tasks with the same predecessor, it will sometimes only change one tasks start date not all of the linked tasks.

Hi Bailey - Those are also prescriptive constraint types, sorry I misled you by saying only "must". Here are details on the constraint types to help in the future. Basically, anytime you are hand-picking a start or end date of a task it's overriding the predecessors.

To keep the default timeline with your predecessors, it's best to use the following constraints.

  • As Soon As Possible
  • As Late As Possible
  • Earliest Available Time
  • Latest Available Time

I would double-check the task constraint type to make sure they aren't set as any kind of "must" type. Workfront essentially ignores any predecessor relationships of the task with those constraint types.

I switched it to Start no later than and Fixed Dates and it still didn't update to reflect the predecessor timing.

I believe ASAP is the only constraint that will allow timelines to be auto updated.

@baileyki - have you confirmed your project settings > Update Type is set to Automatic and On Change?

Yes it is set to "Automatic and On Change"
