Reporting on Priority

Hello! I am trying to count the number of times a task has been in each one of our priority options. I was thinking a matrix report that would show tasks completed in the last month, then the columns count the number of times it was in low, medium, high, urgent, etc. I know I need to create some kind of calculated field, but I have no idea where to start.
