Project List View by Fiscal Year?

I'm trying to wrap my head around if this is possible:

I would like a report, similar to a Project List view, but one that can list project costs (expenses and revenue) filtered or grouped or prompt-enabled or otherwise separated by Fiscal Year (July 1 – June 30).

This wouldn't be based on project start date, but the entry date of the record (be it an expense or hours entered).

Not really too sure where to start, maybe with a Project (Financial) report type?

Just need some idea where to start and maybe ideas what type of values/filters/groupings to start with.

One of the key items is that this should be a list of projects and their costs from a particular fiscal year, but not list the records that lead to that total (don't need to see the individual expense and hour records).

    Touche Kevin,

    I suspect you wouldn't like my Official Answer (i.e. "we have a solution for that"), but distilling a bit of of the principals out from it, suggest putting custom data on the Expenses to either specify (in our case) or calculate (in your case) the appropriate Fiscal YYYYMM and then using an Expense Report to create your Project level sums (either in list / grouped mode, or matrix).

    LOL‚Ķdon't get me wrong, I think it's cool you have all these packages to work around, very elegantly, Workfront's deficiencies! 👍

    But I don't control the purse strings, and we're very add-on adverse around here. And then there's budget consideration. 😮

    Your solution cover expenses, but what about Hours?

    Is there a way to tease out "labor per fiscal by project"?

    I don't see a way to make custom forms for hour/timesheet entries?

    Correct Kevin,

    Hours and Timesheets do not support custom forms, so unless the built in custom quarters logic automatically kicks in, I suspect you'd either need to:

    • approximate it by using custom data to "deem" the Fiscal YYYYMM on the Issue or Task to which the Hour pertains (assuming falls "close enough" to the Planned Completion Date, for example), or
    • use a dynamic grouping to calculate it on the fly off the Hour Entry Date (which might not be possible), or
    • use the API to Do The Math, as we've done with our UberGantt deployment, swapping Calendar column headers Fiscal Years or Agile Sprints
