MultiSelect External Lookup Filed keeps reverting to Single Dropdown

Hello Community.  Wondering if anyone has run across this.  If not, I can put in a support ticket.

I recently started using an External Lookup Field to pull in Team Members from a specific team.  The old way we just had a pulldown field that fixed names,  that we kept having to update every time a new teammber came on board or left etc.  This way the Team Admin can maintain their own list by managing the team.

Anyway, I got it working however the users want it be able to select multiple team members when using the filed.  So after creating the Field, I checked the "Mulit-select dropdown" option.  All seems to work great for a few days.  Then after a while that checkbox somehow is getting unchecked.  I can go in and check it again and it will be ok for a few days.

Has anyone run across this before?  I have attached a screen shot of how my field is setup.  Is it how my field is setup? Or is this a bug?

Any help would be appriciated.

@kautuk_sahni  this ended up being a bug. I submitted a case a couple of months ago and got it resolved.

as a general rule of thumb, if it doesn't show up on the known issues list, I recommend submitting a case to Support.

(I also doubt there's anything in your field that would cause it to work briefly and then switch to another configuration.)

yeariana,  I see in your pic that this field is used on several other forms, is it possible someone updated one of the other forms and updated this field as well?  I only mention as we have Group Admins and have had things like that happen in past where the Group Admin didn't understand the impact of a field change across forms, nor looked to see the multiple forms.  Otherwise, Skye is on point this looks like a support issue.
