Is it possible to add a customer field to the Updates/Notes section?

I'd like to be able to identify the note as belonging to a category for reporting purposes, for example, meeting notes, blocked, priority, etc.

Today we mimic this by putting a #xxx in the body of the update then then search for notes that "contain" the hash tag, but this is clumsy at best.

We use the hashtag option as well then create reports that pull that data for tracking of certain types of communication we are trying to track. Would love to have category options similar to these discussion strings in community! with Custom options! inside updates.
