Can a Project Custom Form Field reference and store the value of a Task Date?

Hello Workfront Community! Is the following possible to accomplish in Workfront? I would like a project custom form field to reference and store the value of a task date in order to conduct a Custom Field Expression in a Project Report? The report calculation would basically minus the two dates from two individual tasks within a project report. Thank you! - Joe

Hi Joe, Based on the description I don't believe it's possible. How would the Project level form know which task to take data from? However, depending on what you're final desired result is, could you use a Task Report? Then you could use your calculations right in the report and just filter by the project you want. Or do you want something to appear at the project level? What's the destination we're shooting for? Then maybe we can craft the best route to get there.

Hey Joe, I'm with Vic on this one, your best bet is a task report. You can do some pretty interesting things with text mode, but since you're hitting a 1:n (1 to many) relationship in the database, it's really difficult to pull data for specific tasks from the project level. That said, here are a couple help articles to help guide you down that path, if you so choose. Forewarning, this is quite a bit above what we can offer support for, but you could check with our remote consulting team (contact your Account Exec to purchase a small block of hours) and see if they can help figure something out with you. https://support.workfront.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000586214-Referencing-Collections-in-a-Report https://support.workfront.com/hc/en-us/articles/360011623794-Create-Complex-Text-Mode-Filters-Using-EXISTS-Statements Good luck! Hello Vic and Dustin, Thanks for your replies! Attached is a Diagram that outlines a report that I'm trying to create. It's basically a list of projects that display their milestone dates and describe the number of days between the dates. I understand the structure of database tables may restrict pulling many project milestone dates then performing a calculation. However, I was attempting to reference specific milestone dates into a custom form field(s) and then call from a report to apply a custom expression(s). @Doug Den Hoed was also kind enough to suggest his UberCalc as an option. Thanks again for your time! Kind regards, - Joe Joe Salas Logitech International SA

Hi Joe & Dustin, Yeah I was thinking a Task report (and filter by Project and the Milestones you wish). However, you want the milestone dates to be side by side (for aesthetics and also you need that for your calculated field). But the only way I know how to get that is using the Milestone View under the projects list. If you go to Projects > Projects > All Projects (or whichever you prefer) and Filter on whatever you want (I chose Current here under my Projects). And select the View called Milestone. That gets the View you want, but unfortunately WF doesn't allow us to customize that view and thus we can't add the calculated fields. At least that's what I've found. Maybe someone else knows a way or Dustin can weigh in again.
