Create Assigned Hours as a Reporting Object to Improve Date based Forecasting

Our leadership would like to be able to use Workfront to forecast hours, revenues, costs and profits by month. Reporting on the Assignments object does not give project owners, resource managers or leadership information about daily/weekly/monthly totals of upcoming work for users. Under People, the Teams and Scheduling tools do give daily totals for users, but the views cannot be manipulated like a report. Nor can these views give information about future revenue or cost.

The solution is to create Assigned Hours as a reporting object. Necessary data fields would include user, task/issue/project, date, forecasted resource revenue, and forecasted resource cost. An Assigned Hours report would function just like an hours report, but would be future looking. The Assigned hours data already exists at the user, date level in the Scheduling and Teams tools, so adding the financial information and exposing as a reporting object are the next step to making the data more powerful.

Assigned Hours reporting will enable date based forecasting for both revenues and costs by user, role, team, project, program, portfolio and company. Forecasting using this approach is critical for firms performing time and materials based projects.

Hi everyone,

Great news! This is now added to the roadmap for enhancements of Adobe Workfront's Resource Management capabilities. The direction we want to move in is exposing the Resource Management data about capacity and workload to public API and the new enhanced reporting engine that is currently in development.

Please stay tuned to our roadmap calls and subscribe to this idea for updates on the progress.

Hi everyone,

As an update on this, we are currently working on centralizing all data for capacity and workload into a single location, accessible via API. In addition we are working with the team working on the new reporting experience to make the data available there in Matrix reports. We will provide updates as we progress through the initiative.

hi Vazgen,

I am Jam from Timex Group USA and I'm running the PMO meeting for the IT organization.  Since 2014, we're using WF extensively specifically planned hours.  After the upgrade from classic to WF One we struggled getting the planned hours and had to resort to manually exporting into excel the resource planner which is very tedious because we have to clean up the excel file. Can you share with me the 1.) high level timeline as to when the matrix reports become available? 2.) if we access via API, how can we do it?  thanks, Jam

hi Vazgen,

Any update on our concern? if timeline is not yet feasible at this time, can you guide me which API to use to get the hours/or planned work?

thanks , Jam

@vazgen_babayan That's great to hear that this is now officially on the roadmap. This is a major pain point in our organization. Is there an update on estimated timeline or any opportunity to participate in a beta or EAP?

This will be added as part of the new reporting experience, so if you are already leveraging the Beta for it, that will be the place to look at. I'm afraid I can't provide any definitive ETA at this point, but we will provide updates as we are further in the development process.
