Contouring Hours in Workload Balancer Bug

Description - Planned Hours are inadvertently being allocated to Saturday and Sunday when users contour hours in the Workload Balancer

Why is this feature important to you - because my organization does not expect colleagues to work on weekends

How would you like the feature to work - I would like the Workload Balancer to respect the Schedule by preventing planned hours from being allocated to weekends.

Current Behavior - when users reallocate/contour planned hours in the Workload balancer and then change the task planned dates, the hours are sometimes being allocated to weekends. Example: a 5-day Duration task originally planned to start on Monday and finish on Friday has 2 Planned Hours. The Project Owner then goes to the Workload Balancer and reallocates 1-hour to Monday and 1-hour to Friday. The Project Owner then changes the Task Planned Start Date from Monday to Tuesday. The Workload Balancer then displays 1-hour on Tuesday and 1-hour on Saturday, even though the Schedule prevents weekend work and the Project Owner never intended for their task assignee to work on Saturday. I want the WLB to automatically shift the remaining 1-hour to Monday.

Do you have your schedules set up to avoid weekends? That has worked for us for years.

Hi @juliech11,

I agree with your desired behavior, but something else about your post caught my eye.

During some pretty intense testing of our Resource Grid solution a few years back, the behavior in Workfront that we observed was that -- if a task's "contour" was altered (as you've described, by putting 1 hour on Monday and 1 hour on Friday) -- there were certain actions that would then "flatten" that contour again....one of which was changing the Planned Start Date. From what you're describing, though, you are now observing that contour is kept, and shifted (albeit onto a weekend), which is different than what we'd observed.

I'm going to take this back to the lab for a forensic autopsy, but wanted to call it out, for others who might be interested.

Regards,

Doug

Randy: Yes, the schedule is configured to avoid weekends.

Doug: FYI I called this in to support and was told this is expected behavior and directed to post an Idea here on the Community site.

Thanks for confirming Julie,

Flattening vs preserving contouring aside (which I'll look into later), that Expected Behavior response (allowing work to land on Saturday) is the same as it was during our Resource Grid testing....which led (in an earlier version we've since retired) us to actually override so that such work was then pushed to the following Monday).

Regards,

Doug
