DITA templates do not show up in pick list when creating new topics or maps

Having created several DITA topic and map templates I assumed those templates would be available in the list of templates when I create a new topic or new map. Is there something beyond creating the template that I need to do in order for the system to add them to the list of available templates? Sadly, the documentation on the question is somewhere between rubbish and non-existent.

    I had not. (The instructions for creating new DITA templates make no mention of this.) Based on your response I looked up Folder templates and was able to make the needed change and add a template. Thanks!

      Glad to know that you were able to make the changes successfully. "Create custom authoring template" does specify the requirement to add the new template in the global or folder-specific profile.
