Paper Forms Barcode - unsupported node

I'm trying to add form field to the barcode but in the list of fields in the barcode setup the field itself is grayed out as an unsupported node.  Is there any way around this "unsupported" issue?

Reader Extension (one of the AEM Forms Server modules) is required to enable the barcode capability so please check if the file is RE enabled. 

If you don't have one, here is an alternate solution
