Adobe campaign will not display [bracket] character in email

I'm trying to display the bracket character around text in a header. I can add the character in the email editor (top pic), but it won't show up in the email itself, preview or when sent. I tried adding the html character into the html editor (second pic), but it still won't show in the email. I don't know what else to do? 

Third pic is how it shows in preview. My onsite tech support is also out of ideas. Help?
