Hello -

Trying to understand - in AEM Dynamic VIdeo can we host the videos in a single place across all of our environments?

Thank you!

AEM Dynamic Media hosts the videos like CDN environment to global network of servers. This content Delivery Network (CDN) to ensure that the assets are delivered quickly and efficiently to users all over the world.

AFAIK, when you configure DM, you will get one sandbox environment and one production environment

Sandbox

https://gateway-na.assetsadobe.com/DMGateway/public/<sandbox>

Production

https://gateway-na.assetsadobe.com/DMGateway/private/<prod>

@lmac23 Dynamic media configuration in AEM environment is done on account basis. As long as the account, you are using in environments is same - you can share videos or any asset in that account across those environments. So in order to achieve what you mention is to use single dynamic media account in all those environments.

A few additional points I can share based on my experience with AEM & Dynamic Media

  1. As suggested definitely have prod and development accounts. In my case I had a prod, stage and development accounts.  The benefit is stage is protected for testing purposes and unaffected by the chaos occurring on connected development environments. The downside is each account you create uses storage so before going that route do some estimation of your DAM so you know how much storage you will need to have. For us it was not an issue.
    • You will need to choose a Region NA, EMEA, APAC. In our case we chose EMEA because we had more authors in that location.
    • In terms of distribution it does not really matter which one you choose.
  2.  We had some anomalies with assets on the development account. Where multiple dev environments were synching to one DM account.
    • According to Adobe support they don't recommend connecting multiple environments to a single DM account and pointed that out as a potential cause.
    • In the end when the project had stabilized we saw less of those issues and when it did occur we simply re-synched the assets.
  3. One thing to understand is that the assets still flow into the AEM Assets then synch --> to Adobe Dynamic Media. You can of course upload assets directly into DM but to have them referenced for use in AEM they should flow into the AEM Assets Dam in a folder that is configured to Synch to Dynamic Media.
