Manager's manager approval

Greetings! I am looking for some assistance on the following: we would like our custom project request form, when submitted, to route to the employees' mid manager for approval and once that is approved, route to the department senior manager for approval. So employee to mid manager to senior manager. Our current set up only allows the request form to route to the mid manager for approval. In order to then get senior manager approval, we must manually send it to the senior manager. Is it possible to automate this?
