Create a checklist like structure inside of tasks that ties to completion % (points of performance)

Imagine I have a task called inspect widget. This task will take place over the course of a few days and will all be performed by the same person. This task involves checking the size, color, and electrical performance of the widget. Today I could create a task grouping and make three separate tasks, but that is both ugly and confusing. It would also grow the size of the project which affects display performance.

What I envision is a checklist like capability where you could optionally tie each item in the checklist to a % completion of the total task. For example, size might be 25% of the task, color 10% and electric 65%. Checking each item off would drive completion of the task.

This functionality would allow for greatly simplified project plans that still have good details as to what steps are needed to complete a task.

Bonus points if we could create a way to drive predecessors off of checklist items as well as the task.

A bit sad to see this idea was posted back in 2017 - my colleagues and I were just talking about having something like this to help us with checklists instead of creating a task for each piece to be checked. I also mentioned Trello has this function! Can we get this upvoted again?

I believe this would be very advantageous for groups working in a more agile framework with a cross functional team. I could use something like this so that I can create a task for a cycle that reflects the total number of estimated hours for the team on this particular project, but yet has a checklist that the team can mark complete as work progresses. This would then show a % complete and would avoid having to create individual tasks and assigning out those tasks. I could also add this task to our kanban board and easily monitor progress.

My Design Team could use this feature so that we can make sure a series of subtasks are performed when a “Prepress” stage (task) is reached.

My workaround:

I created a custom form for a task and gave all the fields radio buttons for pass / fail. The form can be attached to a template so that all projects created from the template have the task and form already present.

I don't like this solution but it's fine for now.

Checklists are a must-have feature. Get on it WF!
