Have you ever wanted to try a new process, custom form, access level, template—or anything else—without making changes to your production environment?
Did you know that Workfront provides all customers with a test environment so you can safely experiment with new ideas? This test environment is known as the Preview Sandbox. The Preview Sandbox contains your actual production data. It refreshes every weekend, so data can be up to one week behind what’s in your production environment.
To access this test environment, system administrators can click into Setup > System > Preferences > Preview Sandbox. For all other users, simply navigate to https://domain.preview.workfront.com and you should be prompted with a login screen. If you are unsure of what your domain is, look at your Workfront URL—the text prior to .my.workfront.com is your domain. In the screenshot below, the domain is nicholevargas.

Below are a few common questions regarding the Preview Sandbox:
1) Do all users have access?
Yes, all users with an active Workfront license have access to the Preview Sandbox, unless their account was set up within the last seven days. If that’s the case, they need to wait until the Preview Sandbox refreshes for their account to be created, as the test environment is one week behind. Administrators can access the test environment via the Setup menu. All other users need to manually type in the URL.
2) What are my login credentials?
If your organization does not use single sign-on (SSO), you can log into the Preview Sandbox with your Workfront credentials. If you have reset your password within the last seven days, you need to use your previous password, as this environment is one week behind. Once the test environment refreshes over the weekend, then you can log in with your new password.
If your organization has enabled single sign-on (SSO) in production, that does not necessarily mean SSO has been enabled for the Preview Sandbox. When you type in the URL for the Preview Sandbox, if you are taken to your SSO login page, that means that SSO has been enabled in your Preview Sandbox. You can login to this test environment with the same credentials used to login to production.
If you are redirected to a Workfront login screen, rather than being taken to your SSO login page, that means that SSO has not been enabled in the Preview Sandbox. You will need to login with your non-SSO credentials. If you are unsure as to what your login credentials are, reach out to your system administrator or have your system administrator engage with our Support team at 844-306-HELP (4357) on next steps.
3) When does the Preview Sandbox refresh?
The Preview Sandbox refreshes every weekend. If you are testing any new processes, you have one week before the instance gets refreshed to match production. For more information on the specific day and time of the refresh, go to trust.workfront.com and scroll to the section titled, Maintenance Windows.
If you would like a test environment that only refreshes based on your manual date selection, check to see if you have a Custom Refresh Sandbox, also known as a Sandbox 1 environment, or reach out to your account executive for further information.
4) Can you receive email notifications from the Preview Sandbox?
Yes, you can turn these email notifications on or off by logging into the Preview Sandbox, clicking your avatar in the top right, and selecting My Settings. In the Preferences section, there’s a checkbox for “Receive emails from this test environment.” Make sure to hit Save Changes for these settings to save.
