Looking through the documentation and I can't seem to find a definition here. Under the Consents and Preferences field group there are 2 subgroupings, Receive Emails and Receive Commercial Emails. I'm clear on receive emails and that this acts as a filter on if a customer can be emailed, but I can't find anything in the documentation on what, specifically, Receive Commercial emails does. Any insight here appreciated as I'd like to make sure I'm using all of the functionality and being as granular as possible.

Both are kind of the same. But it depends on the brand, and what types of emails fit into these classifications varies from country to country. If you look at the structure, the difference is that subscriptions are part of the email object but not of the commercial object. For example, if you want to have a newsletter as a subscription, then you can use the email object rather than the commercial object. Another thing to consider is that some jurisdictions, commercial email could include advertisements or promotions of a commercial product or service, while billing statements and invoices would be considered non-commercial emails.

Thanks Sathees,
Is there any official documentation on this I can refer to?

Unfortunately, I don't see any Adobe documentation that reflects this information.
