DTM out-of-the-box Event-Based Rules

Hi All,

I noticed that when you create a new property in DTM that you get some out-of-the-box EBR's and they are inactive and tracking is disabled..

Question:

  1. Are these out-of-the-box EBR's of any use and is there documentation on usage?
  2. Why is tracking disabled?
  3. If I don't use these, can I just delete them? I just want to make sure I don't mess anything up if I delete them. I assume since they have been inactive for over a year and tracking has been disabled for a year as well that we don't care to use these. However it would be nice to get use cases for each so I can decide if the value is worth the effort.

Hi,

1) They are examples of some possible rules you might create. As for their usefulness, that is entirely dependent on your web property and implementation. Here is the documentation for what each of the rules does.

2) Tracking is disabled by default so that we don't send any Analytics beacons into your report suite without you explicitly enabling them

3) If you choose not to use them, you can most definitely delete them. If you'd like them back in the future, you can just recreate the rule.

Thanks,
Jantzen

Hi Jantzen,

thanks for your help. For anyone else I finally found the descriptions.

Last Question: How is the event based rule for download link different than the Adobe Analytics tool - Link tracking for Download Extensions. Also same question for Outbound Link? Just seems redundant to have both but I assume there was a reason behind it? I just want to ensure we have the most thought-out DTM installation possible.

I believe the event-based rule just gives you a bit more flexibility. For example, If you had downloads for pdf documents and .zip packages but you wanted more than the standard beacon for the pdfs, you could create an event-based rule for the pdfs and customize the beacon.
