Difference between s_fid and s_vi

I'm a little bit confused about the difference between these two cookies. Both contain the visitorID+timestamp, but I dont understand when which cookie is being set. On the test environment of a client I see s_fid, but on the staging and production environment I see s_vi. Can someone explain this to me?

Thanks for reaching out. The s_fid is a fallback cookie if the s_vi cookie is unable to be set. H25+ and App Measurement use this method instead of the previous methodology of user agent+ip. Thanks Tacia. Do I have to configure something in DTM for setting the s_vi cookie or should this be done automatically?

You're welcome. The cookie is set automatically when the Adobe Analytics code is fired. I also found a second article that may be helpful. This article lists all of the Analytics cookies: https://marketing.adobe.com/resources/help/en_US/whitepapers/cookies/cookies_analytics.html.
