Experience target on customer attributes

Avatar

Level 2

We have set up some customer attributes for testing, and are seeing them available in Target. The Customer ID we use is sent on the authenticated area of our site, but we also have many pages that people might visit before / after they log in.

Can we target users on customer attributes after they have logged out? Or the next time they return to our site and before they have logged in? Or will this work only in the authenticated area where the Customer ID is being collected?

What is the difference if I create an Audience in Target based on the customer attribute, vs. creating a segment for it in Analytics and sharing that audience to Target?

As long as they don't clear cookies you should be able to target on that attribute after the first time it's set.

I strongly recommend creating Target Native audiences whenever possible. This is because they are real-time. Where as Analytics audiences are best used when targeting visitors who have performed an action at some point, but not for immediate targeting as soon as the action is taken. (No visitor will qualify for the Campaign the first time they match the criteria for the Analytics Segment/Audience. The first time they match is used by the system to catalog and classify them. They can only qualify if they return a subsequent time and it has to be 24-48hrs later. Only at that point will they trigger the Campaign based on that Analytics Segment/Audience.)

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply. A follow-up question: would this require Target being implemented in the authenticated channel? Currently we don't have Target in there, but we do have the Experience Cloud ID Service and Analytics of course.

That is correct so that you can pass the profile parameters you need to post log-in.
