Restricting File Downloads on Site
Besides using closed user groups, how best to gate content on a CQ5 site so we can gather information from our customers in returns for our downloads.

What problem are you facing with using closed group? Do you want to cache along with restricting then you can refer [1].
Other option would be to use mod_security at apache level etc...
