Repository not reducing even after deleting lot of dam assets

Question

I have a lot of Assets in DAM under different folders. (I am using CQ5.6.1)

My server has reached threshold level((150 GBs), I want to reduce the space taken by repository.

I deleted all asset folders leaving just 10GB , however my repository size has not reduced in line with that.

It is one of our lower environments hence there are no scheduled housekeeping jobs or anything as such.

Why is so?, what do I have to do to bring repository down?
