Hi @varaande
You can ask Adobe to restore your instance from backup from the date when you had 6.5.18.

Note : you may lost the content, please check below for content backup https://experienceleaguecommunities.adobe.com/t5/adobe-experience-manager/issue-with-aem-author-acc-indexing/td-p/665526

Generally Service pack upgrades will be handled by AMS (Adobe Managed Services). Did you check with your AMS or raise ticket?

Rolling back an AEM instance to a previous state after a service pack installation is not a straightforward process and is generally not recommended by Adobe. This is because there are many dependencies are getting updated in the repository and it will impact the rolling back to previous state.

This is not an easy process. If you install the SP (service pack) through package manager, you can try rollback option (uninstall package) .

Please note that uninstalling a package does not guarantee that your AEM instance will be returned to its previous state. Some changes made by the package might not be undone.

Thank you Suresh.

We tried uninstall service pack but getting other issue which causing functionality not working . we submitted the ticket but adobe saying Unix level backup restore which time consuming and involve more process to get permissions  . Client is saying its weird we should be position to restore previous state quickly  if we found issues with service pack which we installed . Any General guidelines to install service pack must follow for smooth service pack install and revert back previous state if any issues .

@varaande  Try to uninstall the packages that you installed, you should be good.

@varaande

You might have taken a backup of AEM server before the upgrade. You can try to restore the same backup to revert to previous version

Uninstalling the service pack from aem installed via package manager won’t work. If you need to work on previous installed service pack on same then you need to work with previous backup instance.

Hi,

The procedure is described in the SP documentation, which is the official reply to your question: https://experienceleague.adobe.com/en/docs/experience-manager-65/content/release-notes/service-pack/6-5-18#install . If you by mistake miss this info and uninstall the package, your best option as everyone else has suggested is to get a restored version of the instance.

Hope this helps.
