New Content Editor - Content Reference Field Doesn't Accept External Links

Editing a content fragment on the New Content Editor, the content reference field doesn't accept external link unlike on old editor. Previously, I was able to type in an external URL starting with https://, but on the new editor I'm not able to click Add after typing it in. Will I need additional Single Line Text field just for the external URL, or is it a configuration change?

Very interesting finding. I too tried few ways, by allowing multiple content types at the model here

Its just the new editor, just allows those specific mimeTypes from DAM. Doesnt mean, we can enter plaintext into Content Ref field.

I too couldn't find better solution. I am in AEMaaCS.

Thanks for replying. I tried the validation as well, and it works just fine in old UI just fine even without any validation selected. The problem is at new editor where it does not allow external links at all.

I am also in AEMaaCS.
