Introducing the Adobe Marketo Engage Data Streams by Benjamin Johnson

Abstract

Marketo Engage has a wide range of customers, each of whom has their own marketing complexities, scale, and goals. The Lead Management application allows for substantial customization and scale; however, it is still based on a single general marketing pattern expanded to allow for adaptation, which may not perfectly match every customer’s preferred marketing plans. This can lead to difficulties when a marketing pattern diverges from the expected, essentially trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. Most customers can successfully implement their marketing using the functionality that Marketo Engage provides out of the box, but sometimes additional tweaking is required.

Over time, Marketo Engage instances tend to grow in both size and complexity. As the number of leads, campaigns, assets, users, and all other data increases, marketing program management becomes more difficult. At scale, it can become an almost herculean task. Usage of the Marketo Engage Rest APIs becomes a necessity as scale increases. The APIs allow customers to deal with much larger marketing efforts through the use of automation. However, while traditional request-response-based architectures have proven valuable, they can still put a significant strain on the system at scale and are not dynamic enough to cater to many use-cases. For instance, tracking changes made to a specific resource in near real-time.

To help expand the scale and capabilities of Marketo Engage, we are introducing the Marketo Engage Data Streams. These streams allow customers to stream events in near real-time out of Marketo Engage.
