Error in authoring AEM pages, worklfow models

I am receiving below error, when we try to author any page or Workflow model  in AEM. Any thoughts on the error?

We are using AEM 6.4.2 version and it is happening in Stage box.

The stack trace that you've shared throws NPE in PayloadMapCache.java hence validate its configurations at /system/console/configMgr

You will find Adobe Granite Workflow PayloadMapCache. Based on your AEM version, the path could either be /var or /etc

Make sure the nodes exist and the workflow service user has appropriate read/write permissions on it.

Adobe Granite Workflow PayloadMapCache that specifies the workflow Models to be considered as system workflows. The default workflow models are:

• /etc/workflow/models/scheduled_activation/jcr:content/model   or /var/workflow/models/scheduled_activation
• /etc/workflow/models/scheduled_deactivation/jcr:content/model or /var/workflow/models/scheduled_deactivation

Interacting with Workflows Programmatically

Check with admin account if you are able to see/author the pages. Check the ACLs of the logged-in user against specific paths.

Validate that you have latest SP/CFP installed as it could be something already patched.

With Admin account we are able to edit the pages and workflows, but not with other accounts. We moved our workflows models from  under /etc to /conf/global/ path

If everything works fine with admin account and not with the user's account then it's likely an ACL issue.

Could you check if the user has read access to /libs, /etc, /conf, /var and other nodes required by the project and appropriate write access as well?

Check the ACL on nodes of content pages and workflow models and in-progress workflows as well.
