Can we restrict how many instances of a component can be dragged onto parys?

We have a requirement to only allow one instance of a component on a parsys. Is there a way to handle this?

Here is an older community article: Customization of parsys to restrict number of compnents in CQ 5.6.1

I am looking to see if we have a newer version of this use case.

Don't think that works for 6.*. Also wondering if there is an easier way to do this using pure configurations in 6.1+

That works! Is it possible to make it part of core parsys component to add that property?
