Can AEM to receive files via FTP (preferably SFTP), so we could use FTP to upload files to AEM DAM folder?

You can use ACS commons Asset ingestor to upload assets to AEM DAM Via SFTP. This approach wouldn't work in AEM Cloud Service.

Yes, You should use the Asset Ingestor provided by ACS-AEM Commons to add assets to AEM.
