I’m running into a bit of a head-scratcher in Adobe Analytics Workspace. While creating a calculated metric, I’m only able to see and use metrics there’s no visibility of dimensions, segments, or any date range options in the builder.
Is this expected behavior? Or am I missing a setting or permission somewhere?
I’m creating the metric via the Components > Calculated Metrics section. Ideally, I’d like to build something more dynamic using segments or contextual dimensions, but those don’t show up at all in the interface.
Would love to know if:
- This is a limitation of the calculated metric builder itself?
- There’s a workaround or advanced setting I should be aware of?
- I should instead be building this within a Freeform table context?
Appreciate any insights or hacks from the community.

Hi @PrernaGotra1 are you in Adobe Analytics Foundation package?
It may be a limitation with your license. Please check with your team. You are probably not seeing this only because of Adobe Analytics license or permission issue.

Hi @PrernaGotra1 It looks like you dont have permission to create calculated metrics.
Please get in touch with your admin who manages the permission.
While looking at your screen shot, i can see only the metrics its available that you can use.
Here is the right panel, where you can see metrics, dimension, segments etc
Let me know if this not fixes your problem.
Thanks,
Bala
Hi @Imbalakumar , Thanks for providing the solution. However, I have the permission to create calculated metrics.

Hi @Imbalakumar – I have double-checked, and yes, I’m using the Adobe Analytics Foundation package. And as per the documentation, it clearly states that only calculated metrics can be created under this package. Thank you for your guidance.
The most likely answer is that your company has the "foundation" sku for Adobe Analytics. Each of the different skus has different features (with the more expensive ones having more features). If you have the foundation one, then you can only make "calculated metrics" not "advanced calculated metrics". Based on what you're seeing and what this page says, it sounds like that's the case.
Hi @MandyGeorge - That totally makes sense, and yes, we do have the Foundation SKU, so that lines up with what I’m seeing. Just wondering though: is there any possibility of using advanced segments with this package? Even partial access or some sort of workaround? Appreciate your help, thanks again.
Unfortunately no, if you only have the foundation SKU you're limited on what you can do with calculated metrics.
Hi @MandyGeorge - Got it, thanks for confirming that. Kind of a bummer, but good to have clarity. We’ll work within the Foundation limits for now, but I might explore with the team if there’s any wiggle room to upgrade in the future—those advanced metrics would definitely come in handy!
Appreciate your quick and super helpful responses.
Your best bet would probably be to try and make a strong business case by all the different features. This page here has a list of all the features for the Select, Prime, and Ultimate SKUs. It doesn't list what features are in foundation, but since you have that one, you already know what it does.
When we were preparing to sign our contract I did a comparison of the feature differences for leadership to show the value of the different options. This page was a huge help for that.
