Trending Subtotals

Question

Hello,
 
I have a table that is filtered using advanced filtering to show just what I want. This shows a subtotal in bold with the out of grand total. I want to show a monthly trend for the subtotal but the visualize only allows me to trend the grand total. 
How to I trend the subtotal? I prefer an area chart.

Have you tried creating a segment that takes the place of the filter? Thereby making the grand total the value you are graphing? Or do you need to see the two separate values?

Yes, I ended up creating a segment. I wanted an easier way for flexibility because my users aren't used to creating & modifying segments. They'll have to modify the segment as things change. I'll have to give them some training.
