Tracking direct downloads in email campaigns

We do several email marketing campaigns and some of them include links to download PDFs, is there a way to trigger SC tracking when you know the scode will not be loaded because I am not taking them to a page?

I can't load custom link tracking because of javascript.  Is there actionscript you can embed in a PDF?  Any ideas?

    I've seen other clients accomplish this one of several ways:

    • Use server-side tracking to determine the number of downloads
    • Put the PDF in a 'wrapper' (such as java or actionscript) and use its respective appmeasurement library
    • link to a blank browser page which automatically initiates the PDF download

    Whichever way you feel most comfortable with would be the best option.
