How to see the referring domains inside the marketing channel Internal?

Avatar

I have few sister websites from our main website. If I look at the Marketing Channels I can't see the Referrer Domains if I use for instance Marketing Channel Detail or Referring Domain.

inductiekookplaatt.com is our main website and I want to see how many visitors were from our sister website top-x.nl when they converted. What dimension do I use to see the referrers within Internal in Workspace?

Hi @HendricksKl ,

if I am understanding correctly, it should be referring domain report indeed. It should be report with Landing page URL broken down with Referrer domains and filtered to contain top-x.nl.

Also, You must configure your report suite’s Internal URL filters to use this dimension. Failure to configure internal URL filters can either include internal domains or prevent external domains from appearing.

Do you track all websites under one report suite? If so, do you have previous page URL dimension implemented? That report can help if any setting is amiss.

Best,

Hi @HendricksKl,

What you are seeing is expected behaviour because of how Marketing Channels and Referrers are classified. By default, Adobe treats visits from your own domains (and any domains you’ve excluded as "internal") as Internal Referrers and strips them out of the Marketing Channels reporting, since the model is designed to track external acquisition.
That’s why you won’t see top-x.nl or other sister domains under Marketing Channel Detail or Referring Domain – they fall under "Internal", and Analytics doesn’t retain those as part of channel attribution.
If you specifically want to analyse traffic moving between your sister sites, you will need to Create a custom dimension to capture full referrer domain on entry. Using a dedicated eVar or prop for this will allow you to break down conversions by "Previous Domain" and see which sister site drove them.

Hope this helps,
Dan
