Classifying/Processing Rules for out of the box variables

Hi,

Does anyone know if it's possible to classify/use processing rules (or other methods) with the out of the box variables in Adobe Analytics

i.e. Classifying Visit Number to New / Repeat (removing the need the New/Repeat plugin and keeping this data as a dimension rather than a segment) or Mobile Device Type to create more useful groupings?

I can't see a way to do this in the classification builders, and it appears these Variables cannot be selected for processing rules either.

Classifications can't be applied to such dimensions, unfortunately. Please support the idea here

Hi @tcrewes1,

As far as I know, the answer is no, because the variables are not available to select from the Classification drop-down on the Conversion Classifications screen.  My thought is it's because they already have solved for the values they believe should be in those "out-of-the-box" variables and don't want to create any "confusion."  You may, however, have a lot more capabilities available to you through Launch, which is beyond my expertise, but well worth investigating.
@brian_johnson_, are you aware of the possibility to access any of the out-of-the-box variables like this through Adobe Launch?

@jeff_bloomer - Unfortunately, that's not possible. I'm assuming it's because of other processing that goes on behind the scenes to create those variables in the first place. OP mentioned using segments, which would be one option (you can use segments as dimensions in workspace), otherwise the scenarios mentioned would need client-side plugins to capture the data in props/eVars.

Thanks. I was thinking along the lines of passing a value into another Variable based on an out-of-the-box by utilizing Launch as a workaround solution, but the idea to just have classifications on all make things a LOT easier!
