Changing s.trackingServer

We plan on making a change to our s.trackingServer variable in the next couple of weeks. I know this affects the cookie used to track my users but what affect will this change have on my reporting.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Jeff,

The trackingServer variable is used to specify the domain at which the image request and cookie is written.

Therefore if the value is changed, the cookie will not be read and therefore a new s_vi will be written on the new trackingServer and therefore a new unique visitor will be counted.

Basically you will have a lot of new visitors and any persisting variables tied to the visitorID will be lost (s.cmapaign, s.eVarN, s.listN ....).

Best regards.

To help minimize the impact of changing the data collection domain, you can migrate visitors from the old data collection domain to the new one. More information here: http://microsite.omniture.com/t2/help/en_US/sc/implement/index.html#Visitor_Migration

Other than that I can't think of anything else that might impact reporting.
