Plug-in to remove unwanted characters

It would be great to have a plug-in in SiteCatalyst that removes characters from strings such as accent marks, diaeresis or the letter "ñ", that sometimes are not displayed properly on the reports. 

It could be used automatically on every variable that could contain these characters, as following:

s.prop10=removeUnwantedCharacters(s.prop10);

This plug-in would also accomplish its task regardless of the char set of the web page were it was used.

It could also have an option to convert strings to lowercase or to uppercase letters.
