Edit Copy not original- For shared segments and metrics

Description - When a users share a segment with a group of users or individual, there should be an option to decide edit rights - edit copy or edit original.

Why is this feature important to you - Our Analytics community is mixed with foundational to advance users and we are often sharing components based on expertise level. This feature would help us to democratize more of the IP across teams.

How would you like the feature to work - The sharing prompt should work much like workspaces. Edit copy - Edit Original- Read Only.

Current Behaviour - Today we can only ask the user to clone segments from the components section, if they want any specific universal segments OR work based on trust that the user wont make an update and would be careful.

@debwilliam Confirming here that the intent is to protect the original segment (filter).  The idea would be to have permissions on a segment, and other custom components like calculated metrics and date ranges that work similar to how we have workspace permissions today:

  • Edit original
  • Edit copy
  • Read only

I am 100% on board!

Something like this has been repeatedly requested for years. There was even a comment in one of the idea posts from 2018 from Adobe indicating that it was being worked on. Hopefully we get some movement on this soon, since it's been 6+ years.

@jeff_bloomer  yes that's the request, hopefully the new product lead for the leadership committee could push this one along. Thanks for the support.

@brentrad thanks for the additional background, it helps.

@brentrad I have a feeling Adobe decided that the permissions to Edit Original, Edit Copy, or Read Only on the Adobe Analytics Workspace primarily satisfied the spirit of the request and never went beyond that to include moving on to to the lower components.  In fact, I'm 99% sure of it.
The only mention of the moving on to smaller components is at the very top of the original request, and then the remainder tends to spend talking most about Worspace-level permissions.

I agree with @debwilliam that the original post adds some good background; however, I have a feeling Adobe has moved on, and I fully agree it's a good idea to resurface the discussion around doing this with the components, and not just the workspaces themselves.
Gotta keep them hoppin'!
