Don't mix Visits and Instances in funnel reports

Hi,

In funnel reports we can use the "Visits (report-specific)" metric. As soon as a filter is applied, instead of the amount of Visits, the amount of Instances is shown. Unfortunately the report still uses "Visits" as description.

This is no bug. ClientCare:

"In funnels, the "Visits (Report-Specific)" metric will be Instances, but only if you have defined a filter. In that case, it will be Instances of the defined Filter value. If no filter is specified, "Visits (Report-Specific)" will be Visits."

Conclusion of ClientCare:

"though it is not necessarily intuitive, this function is indeed working as designed".

(emphasis by me)

My idea is, maybe it is old-fashioned, use the correct name of the metric. If the report shows Instances, don't call them Visits.

Hello!

I totally agree with nic. This is confusing for us "experts" in SiteCatalyst already. For a normal user that is very distracting and contributes to the ideas that the tool might not work correctly and as soon as this starts many people stop using it.

@Omniture: please stop showing one metric / dimension and calling it something else!

Other example: referring domains in a break down shows types/bookmarked for ALL page views that had "unknown" before. Only a small part of that is types/bookmarked. Many of them come from internal and hence do not have a referrer!

Best regards,

Claudia

I agree too.. I was the one asking Nic as I was confused!!

PS why is it difficult to have it changed since it is wrong? It should be in Omniture's best interest!

I think you will find many of these issues resolved in a future release of SiteCatalyst. We are making platform changes that I believe will remove the need to rely on these unclear metrics in most cases. I am going to mark this as "In Progress" for the time being, and we can revisit this if necessary.

Hi Ben, Hi Adobe,

the issue was indeed solved. The current SCv15.x is showing both Visits and Instances in filtered funnel reports.*1

I can send proof if needed. Else I think, we can consider this as "Implemented".

*1 AND (Visits not equal Instances) AND (both metrics show the same values as in the ranked report)

The new funnel (Fallout) visualization in Analysis Workspace does not force this limitation.
