Allow adding a label for a trend line in line charts

Description:
Trend lines in line charts are very helpful. But for the reader of a report/dashboard, it remains unclear what the grey line means and how the trend is calculated.

Current behaviour:
Lines charts allow to add trend lines, but the line chart is not able to provide a legend for the trend line.

How the feature should work:
If a trend line is added, show a legend for it, which includes the selected trend line calculation (when legends are enabled).

Why this is important:
Readers of the report should be able to easily understand the chart.

So what is the suggestion?

The default template for an Idea is:

  • Description
  • Why is this feature important to you

  • How would you like the feature to work

  • Current Behaviour

None of these have been provided...

Right now, you can always edit the description on the visualization to say which Trend Line has been applied:

And if there is additional configuration like on Moving Average:

If you don't understand which trendline you are applying to your visualizations, then it's probably not a good candidate to use...

As much as I would like to give you an upvote, I don't know what you are suggesting...

Please provide some more details how you thing trendlines can be improved, so that people will want to vote for your idea 🙂

Thanks for the hint. Edited the idea.

The proposed solution does not work for me, because I do not want to add an additional description when I already have a legend.

Thanks @joernfa now I understand.. and I know the "description" isn't ideal... but it may be the only option for now... unless Adobe picks this up and runs with it right away.
