salesforce field hidden in web form is preventing campaign association

So I am new to Marketo, but a seasoned Salesforce Administrator. Our marketing team created some Marketo Web Forms to capture leads, and eventually migrate them in to SFDC. I have asked them to include a hidden field in the webform to help out my lead assignment rules, but during testing we discovered that the leads would come through to Salesforce, but not tied to a campaign (By campaign membership)

If we remove the hidden field, everything works perfectly, besides the assignment to a Sales Rep. Our Marketing team doesn't know of any workarounds, so hopefully there is someone on here knowledgeable about this limitation.

What is it that's supposed to be tying people to the SFDC campaign? And what's the relationship between the custom field and your autoassignment rules?

Standard Salesforce setup is to use the "Campaign Membership" joining object - this allows leads to be tied to multiple campaigns.

The field I am asking to be passed is a picklist "Team Assigned" - since we have multiple sales teams (Product specialists), and most are territory driven, there has to be a unique identifier for us to have automatica assignments.
