format date on emails

Hi,

 

I have a very common scenario where i need to display a BirthDate on an email. In my profile schema i have birthdate field of date datatype with a value lets say 06/30/2001(mm/dd/yyyy). But when email renders, it is displayed as 

Fri Jun 29 2001 19:00:00 GMT-0500 (EST).

So if we notice..what is happening here is 06/30/2001 is being considered as Sat Jun 30 00:00:00 GMT and being converted into EST time. 

How is that possible? what needs to be corrected?

It was resolved using formatDate function.
